Corals of the genus Acropora require plenty of light, whether from HQI filaments, T5 fluorescents or LEDs. To maximise their growth rate, it is necessary to maintain a stable water pH, high calcium and carbonate hardness values. Another important factor is low levels of nutrients, i.e. nitrates and phosphates - at too high levels corals may turn brown or even die. Acropods require strong and, ideally, variable circulation (a wavebox is beneficial). They mainly feed on light (via the symbiotic algae, zooxanthellae, which are found in their tissues) but feeding on a variety of foods is very beneficial: frozen (lobster roe, red and green plankton), liquid as well as dry.
Reproduction under aquarium conditions is very simple: simply break off a piece of healthy coral and stick it to a saucer or a piece of live rock with a suitable adhesive.
